Reinforcing steel bar is supplied in stock lengths, cut lengths and cut & bent to order.
Ribbed reinforcing steel is to BS4449:2005 and has a yield strength of 500MPa. Plain round bar has a yield strength of 250MPa.

When scheduling bar, the following notations should be used:-
- H - Ribbed Grade 500 (this replaces T or Y from older standards)
- R - Plain Round Grade 250
- S - Stainless Steel
For example, 10mm ribbed is referred to as H10.
BS4449:2005 specifies three ductility grades: B500A, B500B & B500C.
The capital letter B preceding the yield strength denotes reinforcing steel. The capital letters A, B & C following the yield strength denote the ductility class, with A being the lowest.
When scheduling steel reinforcement for cutting and bending to BS8666:2005, the notations are:
- H - B500A, B500B or B500C
- A - B500A
- B - B500B or B500C
- C - B500C
Accordingly, if the notation H is used (the most common), either Grades B500A, B500B or B500C can be used. Steel supplied by Derim Steels Ltd is predominantly Grade B500B, the rest is Grade B500C. We operate a system of full traceability and test certificates are held on file.
Bending is to BS8666:2005. For conversion information from the older BS4466,
